SAY GOODBYE TO BITING FLIES WITH TPM BOOST FLY GO

ree

Over the summer of 2023/24, dairy farmers across South Australia and Victoria took part in an exciting new trial with TRAC experts resulting in the introduction of TPM Boost FLY GO, a natural innovation designed to reduce cow irritation caused by biting flies. After strong results across multiple farms, we’re proud to officially launch this breakthrough product into the market.

The Natural Power of Garlic

At the heart of TPM Boost FLY GO is garlic - organic, immune-boosting, and now proven to help deter biting flies. Research has long suggested that garlic in the bloodstream makes cows less attractive to flies. Our trials confirmed this: once cows reached effective levels (around 7 days of feeding), biting flies dramatically reduced.

Farmers reported immediate changes in herd behaviour:

  • Less grouping and restlessness

  • Reduced feed disruption

  • Fewer issues with auto teat spray wands and robotic cup failures

  • Calmer cows overall

Even calves benefited, with noticeably fewer flies around bedding areas. Importantly, once the supplement was withdrawn, biting fly irritation quickly returned — confirming the product’s direct impact.

In the Words of Farmers

“Today would be day 12 since we had TPM Boost FLY GO pre-mixed into our dairy mineral mix and about 25 days feeding it. We still see cows swishing their tails but don’t seem to be irritated by the flies; they usually rush to the yard in the afternoon to get under the sprinklers when the flies are irritating them, but they haven’t done that for the last week.  Five days ago, on the feed-pad there were about 10% of cows still stomping their feet, today in the paddock you will struggle to find any stomping their feet.”

What We’ve Learned

Through these on-farm trials, we’ve identified the best feeding levels and delivery formats. While the powdered version showed some inconsistencies between batches, where one batch would make your eyes water when adding to the mix, then the next batch was easier on the senses but had little to no impact on the flies, it was the liquid form of garlic that has proven most reliable for inclusion in TPM Boost FLY GO. Applied directly to powdered mineral mixes or pellets, it’s consistent, effective, and as the dose rate is low, it can replace the oil component of the formulation to double as a dust binder.

The only catch. Shelf life! To maintain potency, TPM Boost FLY GO should be used within three months once mixed. Signs of expiry are sweating and white mould, so make sure the product is used within the expiration dates.

Available Now

For now, TPM Boost FLY GO is available as an add-on for custom dairy mineral mixes through your TRAC Consultant. While broader stockfeed mill application is possible, handling and application may need a farm-by-farm approach.

A Step Forward for Herd Health

The results speak for themselves: farms have experienced a near-complete reduction in biting flies, calmer cows, and fewer herd management issues. While we continue to learn more about its long-term impact, one thing is clear — TPM Boost FLY GO is already making a difference.
